My biggest challenges have been mostly trying to get people in the community to understand MODY...like the school nurse who tells you she knows what you are talking about, but really is just thinking Type2 diabetes the entire time. Or everytime I fill out one of those health cards for a sport or something where I have to check the other box under medical conditions and then try and explain this. Oh and of course trying to get my kids to eat right, especially my son who all of a sudden likes NOTHING I make to eat that is healthy and wants to live on junk! And my daughter who is hungry ALL the time and wants to snack 24/7!!
I gave the school nurse a copy of our MODY type desription and article from the Exeter site and our doctor's number if she had any questions at all. She has been very good. Teachers always have to be educated each year but they usually get on board pretty quickly. We have been lucky here. Dylan gets VERY hungry too. He is also very small for his age.
